Detectives are continuing to investigate the death of a man who was found in a block of flats in Rusholme.
At 5.15am on Friday 31
August 2012, police were called to the address on Dickenson Road following
reports of a disturbance.
Officers attended and found that a man had suffered serious
injuries, and was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man is believed to be in his 30s but has not been
formally identified.
A
17-year-old who was at the scene was detained by officers and arrested on
suspicion of murder. She remains in custody.
A number of addresses in the area are being treated as
crime scenes which will require careful examination.
A section of Dickenson Road, between Birch
Lane and Swayfield Avenue, has been closed to traffic while inquiries, which are
ongoing, continue. Officers expect these closures to remain in place for much of
today, Friday 31 August 2012.
Superintendent Wasim Chaudhry said: "First of all, I want to
stress that we are in the very early stages of our inquiries.
"I appreciate that this
morning's events will cause some alarm in the area, but we are working as hard
as we can to establish the full circumstances.
"We are keen to try and establish the identity of this
man and offer support to his family.
"We are also, however, conducting what is a complicated
investigation. We are therefore carrying out inquiries at a number of addresses
which we need to cordon off.
"Diversions will be in place around this area in an effort to
minimise disruption."
