Burned body in Leigh - death not suspicious

Wednesday, April 11th 2012 13:15

Foul play ruled out

A post-mortem examination has revealed a manwho's burned body was found in woodland in Leigh,  died from burns and smoke inhalation

Shortly before 3pm on Monday 9 April 2012, the body of the man was found on private land near Pennington Brook, off Pennington Road and Chestnut Drive.

Officers attended and have recovered the body.

Inquiries into the circumstances surrounding his death are ongoing, however, police are no longer treating it as suspicious.

Superintendent Julian Snowball from Greater Manchester Police’s Wigan division said: "We believe we have traced the family of the man however, we have not been able to contact them at this stage and it would be wrong to name him before loved ones have been informed.

"We are still investigating the circumstances of the death but are satisfied that no foul play was involved.  However, I would still ask for people with information to come forward.

Anyone with any information is asked to call police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
