Body found in Kirkham
A funeral will be held for a baby boy whose body was found in Kirkham last October.
The funeral will be held at St Michael's Church Kirkham at 5pm on Wednesday, June 13th after the community rallied round to raise money or provide services free of charge. All members of the community are invited to the funeral.
The baby's body was found in Spen Brook, a few hundred yards away from the Boys Brigade Club on Carr Lane on Saturday, October 1st 2011.
Since then officers have carried out extensive enquires which have included searches of the area, speaking to hundreds of members of the community, and the launch of a national media campaign with appeals on BBC1's Crimewatch and ITV1's This Morning's ‘Crime File'.
Detectives have also done a Facebook advert which has attracted over 1,900 views and a YouTube video appeal which has reached over 2,500 people - all in a bid to try to trace the mother of the baby boy.
Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Barrow from the Force Major Investigation Team said: "The people of Kirkham have clearly been deeply moved by what has happened and I would like to thank them for pulling together in the face of this tragedy to raise money and offer their services so that this little boy can be put to rest.
"This remains very much an ongoing investigation and I believe that the answers are out there somewhere. We will not rest and leave no stone unturned until we get to the bottom of exactly what has happened.”
People with information can contact the police on 101 or the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111 or on-line at Crimestoppers-uk.org. No personal details are taken, information is not traced or recorded and you will not go to court.
