A teenage girl was robbed of her bike while out on
her paper round in Salford.
It
happened when the 17-year-old girl was riding her pedal cycle along Manchester
Road in Clifton at about 6.20am on Monday 24 September 2012.
The young girl saw a man standing on the
pavement near the top of the TA Barracks and, wanting to be cautious, rode to
the other side of the road before riding down Manley Avenue.
While on Manley Avenue, the man she had
just seen approached her and grabbed the bike as she was getting off it. He
shoved the bike into her and shouted a number of obscenities and threatened to
punch her unless she gave him the bike.
Frightened, the girl let go of the bike and the man rode
off.
The bike, which is worth about
£850, is described as being a Marin black mountain bike with 26 inch wheels. It
has a pink seat stem and pink outer rims. The bike also has a Madrone Trail
sticker on the frame and the brake callipers are also pink.
The offender is described as white, about 5ft 9in tall,
of a medium build and with jet black hair said to be thick on the top but cut
short. He also had big thick eyebrows and squinted eyes. He was wearing dark
blue jeans, a black waterproof jacket and black adidas trainers.
Police Constable Michelle Ingham from
Salford’s Robbery Unit said: "Many young people do a paper round to earn
themselves a bit of money, which is very commendable. So for this young girl to
be targeted in this way and robbed of her bike is a despicable act.
"The offender is obviously a coward
who is prepared to stoop as low as to pick on a young girl, so he is clearly
someone we need to find and take off our streets.
"I would appeal to anyone who witnessed this robbery to come
forward. There may have been people leaving for work or out walking to the shops
who may have seen a man matching this description hanging around. If you did, we
need to hear from you.
"I would also
urge anyone who is either offered a bike like this for sale, or who sees someone
riding around on what is quite a distinctive bike, to call police
immediately."
