More problems at Merseyside chipboard plant

Friday, January 27th 2012 00:00

Sonae hit with another fire

The controversial Sonae plant in Kirkby went up in flames again last night - after there were reports of two explosions.

Fire crews were called out to the chipboard factory at around half past six after a blaze broke out in a Silo containing ten tonnes of sawdust.

It only re-opened a couple of weeks ago after a fire back in June that burnt for more than week. Three workers have also died there over the last 18 months, and Health and Safety bosses say they've been called out to 22 serious incidents there over the last 10 years.

This fire was out by 11.30, no one was hurt, and no homes had to be evacuated.
