Police have launched a murder investigation following the death of a 3 year old girl in Preston.
Lia Green was feeling unwell on the morning of Thursday 30th August and around 8:20am was taken by paramedics from her home address on Norris Street to the Royal Preston Hospital but was sadly pronounced dead on arrival.
A 22 year old man and a 20 year old woman were arrested on suspicion of murder - and have now been released on bail
A home office post mortem examination has revealed that Lia died as a result of significant internal injuries as a result of violence.
Senior Investigating Officer, Detective Superintendent Dermott Horrigan from the Force Major Investigation Team said, "This is an incredibly complex and sensitive inquiry and we have a team of highly trained and professional officers looking into the matter. Dedicated family liaison officers will be working with the family.
"The death of a child will always be greeted with shock and a deep sense of sadness. We have dedicated neighbourhood policing officers working in the area and talking to residents and I would urge anyone who has any concerns to speak to them
