Police want four potential witnesses to come forward following Wigan death

Tuesday, October 16th 2012 01:00

It comes after a 60 year old man died after being pushed over and hitting his head on King street last week

Detectives investigating the death of a man in Wigan are trying to trace potential witnesses.

Michael John Warhurst, aged 60, died following the incident in the early hours of Monday 8 October 2012.

Michael was pushed over and as he fell backwards onto the roadway his head struck the floor. The incident happened outside Chicago Rock on King Street sometime around 1.30am.

A post mortem examination concluded the cause of death was due to a head injury.

A 29-year-old man arrested on suspicion of manslaughter has been released on bail pending further inquiries until 19 November 2012.

Detective Inspector Andy Cunliffe said: "We have had a really positive response to previous appeals from members of the public, but I really need to trace the four people in these images.

"I want to stress that we are treating them as potential witnesses only but we need to speak to them to establish what, if anything, they saw.

"This was a terrible incident and we need to understand the full facts of what happened so I would urge anyone who recognises themselves in the images or those who can help us identify them to call us.”

Anyone with information is asked to contact police on 0161 856 1722 or Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
