A police officers been run over after asking the driver to stop in Bolton.
At 3.30pm on Tuesday 9 October 2012, the 31-year-old
officer was conducting a routine document check on a Ford KA on Le Mans Crescent
when she established the car had no insurance.
The car was coming towards her so the officer signalled
the driver to stop.
The
car continued to come towards her and she was struck by the driver’s side of the
vehicle. This caused her body to turn and her ankle was run over before the
vehicle drove off.
The
officer contacted other colleagues in the area and a 42-year-old woman was
arrested on suspicion of failing to stop for a police officer, section 47
assault, assaulting a police officer and driving a motor vehicle whilst unfit
through drink/drugs.
She
was released on police bail until 24 October 2012 pending further
inquiries.
The officer is
recovering from injuries to her ankle and foot, which are not serious.
Chief Inspector Jon Percival
based at Bolton Police Station said: "It was established the car was not insured
once the officer checked the Police National Computer database. When she tried
to stop the driver of the vehicle, they refused to stop, collided with the
officer and made off from the scene.
"Despite being in a lot of pain, the officer had the presence of
mind to provide details of the vehicle to her colleagues and an arrest was made
a short time later. Thankfully, the officer was not seriously hurt and is
recovering.”
