Leigh Centurions have announced
the signing of Ryan Brierley after the youngster found out his contract with
Castleford was not going to be renewed.
The 20 year old has been on dual
contract terms with Leigh this term and has impressed everyone with a series of
sparkling performances that have seen him top the Centurion try charts with 24
tries in 24 games in a season that has also seen him create a further eight
tries for team-mates. His tally of tries, which includes the hat-trick scored in
Thursdays 40-14 success over Keighley Cougars is all the more impressive
considering that Ryan has started just seven games this term.
Such has
been his scoring prowess, Ryan has now passed 100 points for the season and sits
behind Martyn Ridyard in the top points list for the club.
Brierley was
originally signed by Castleford from amateur club Westhoughton Lions and had
been with the Tigers for the past couple of years, playing often for their Under
18s and Under 20s in addition to first team friendlies without making his Super
League debut.
Trevor Barton MBE, CEO of Leigh Centurions
commented;
"This is good news for us. We can school our youngsters and
take them into Super League with us. Ryan and his family epitomise the club's
values."
"Brierley is now a contracted Leigh player for the next two
seasons but the club will not stand in his way if the right Super League comes
calling."
Paul Rowley, Centurions Coach added;
"Ryan is one of
the final pieces in our 2013 jigsaw. I wanted to get to the close season with a
balanced squad in place. Ryan is an extremely ambitious young man and his talent
is there for all to see. Like the club he has strong desires to play in Super
League and his energy and commitment makes him a pleasure to work
with."
"We will continue our recruitment drive over the coming weeks
until we feel our squad is in a strong position to continue to royally entertain
our loyal fans."
