Ex Terra Lucem – out of the earth came light – was used for some of the industrial revolution scenes created by filmmaker Danny Boyle.
Another famous link was Frank Cottrell Boyce, the St.Helens born children’s author, screenwriter for the opening extravaganza. Cottrell Boyce grew up in Rainhill and went to St. Bartholomew’s Primary and West Park schools.
Cottrell Boyce was also asked to write what may go down as the most famous line of the ceremony. In a short film recorded at Buckingham Palace and shown early on in the ceremony James Bond (aka Daniel Craig) was seen visiting the Queen. It was his now iconic line – "Her Majesty...Good evening Mr. Bond.” Craig was then seen escorting the Queen to the ceremony via helicopter.
At first everyone assumed it would be a body double but the Queen said she would like to do it – the first time she has acted.
The Latin motto used to feature on the town’s coat of arms and was a tribute to St.Helens mining heritage.
Council Leader Marie Rimmer said: "What a tremendous tribute to the borough’s historic legacy and our key role in the industrial revolution which featured so prominently in the London 2012 ceremony
