Tomkins wins Man of Steel

Sam Tomkins has been named as Super League’s Man of Steel.

The 23 year old Wigan full back won the award after picking up the most votes from his fellow professionals, seeing off competition from James Roby and Ben Westwood.

Tomkins scored 29 tries on the way to helping Warriors pick up the League Leaders’ Shield, but missed Friday’s crucial play-off defeat to Leeds through injury.

After being nominated last year, and previously being awarded Young Player of the Year in 2009 & 2010, he becomes the 3rdWigan player to win the award this century after Andy Farrell in 2004 and Pat Richards in 2010.

Meanwhile, there were double celebrations for Wigan as they were named Club of the Year, while Saints Josh Jones missed out on winning Young Player of the Year – beaten by Leeds’ Zak Hardaker.
