Trial date set for wheelie bin murder case

James Jepson will stand trial in September

A 25-year-old man today (Fri) denied murdering a neighbour, whose body was found dumped in a wheelie bin in Wigan.


James Anthony Jepson pleaded not guilty to murdering 26-year-old Steven Rourke, who was discovered in the bin on open land off Bickershaw Lane on Sunday morning, March 25 this year.


A post-mortem examination revealed that Mr Rourke had been strangled with a piece of washing line.


Jepson, also known as Kelly, of Bickershaw Lane, Hindley, appeared via video link from Liverpool prison, was further remanded in custody by the Recorder of Liverpool, Judge Clement Goldstone, QC to await his trial beginning on September 3.
