Blake GreenStand-off signs two year deal
Wigan Warriors today announce the
signing of Hull KR Stand-Off, Blake Green, on a Two-Year Contract for Seasons
2013 and 2014.
Wigan have agreed a substantial
settlement fee with Hull KR for the 25 year old who had two years remaining on
his contract at Craven Park. Green has been signed to replace the departing
Brett Finch who is returning down under at the end of this season .
Blake Green joined Rovers at the
end of the 2010 season from Canterbury Bulldogs in the NRL and was an immediate
success. He was awarded the Club’s Player of the Year Trophy in 2011 scoring 12
tries in 27 appearances.
Green captained Australia
Schoolboys in 2004 and led Parramatta’s Premier League
side to consecutive Premierships in 2005 and 2006. He went on to make his NRL debut for Parramatta in 2007 before moving to
Cronulla in 2008,
a move which saw him secure regular appearances. In 2010, Blake played briefly
for Canterbury before his switch to Super League. He has made over 40 appearances in the NRL.
Speaking about the signing of
Blake, Head Coach Shaun Wane said:
"I am really excited to have Blake
Green joining us. We have admired his style of play for some time at Wigan with
his ability to attack the line, his kicking game and his strong defence. He will
be a great addition to our squad and has all the qualities we need both as a
player and a person.”
Blake Green
added:
"I'm really excited to be given
the opportunity to play for the Wigan Warriors. They are a great club with a
proud history which I'm sure will only improve my game. I'd like to thank Neil
Hudgell and Hull KR for the way they have treated me over the last two years and
will leave them with only good memories and close friendships. I am looking
forward to this new chapter in my playing career with Wigan and hope to play a
key role over the next couple of seasons as the team look to build on recent
successes.”
Ian Lenagan, Chairman,
commented:
"This signing is another example
of the excellent and mutually-respectful relationship between our two clubs with
Wigan paying a full transfer fee for the player in recognition of him being
released early by Hull KR. Blake Green's signing means Wigan have now covered
well the two vitally important half-back positions for the near future whilst
ensuring peer-group development and competition in the medium-term for Sam
Powell, George Williams and Ryan Hampshire."
