Despite leading 1-0 until the 51st minute Latics lost 2-1.
Nick Powell broke the deadlock just before the break to put Latics ahead but in the second half it all unravelled with the hosts equalising thanks to Fraizer Campbell.
Then in the 89th minute a header from Jordy De Wijs secured Hull three points.
Speaking after the game Latics boss Paul Cook said it was all to familiar.
"It's like take 26 this season it's the same repetitive stuff we're going through.
"We're putting ourselves in great positions to get something out of games but we're not seeing it through. We've five games to go now and the reality is we're got it all on the next two games which is very difficult.
"There is a pattern to what we do home and away."
