Wigan held by Boro

A good point for Paul Cook's side

Wigan Athletic extended their unbeaten run in the Championship to five, with a goalless draw at home to promotion chasing Middlesbrough.

Switching to an unfamiliar 3-5-2 formation, Paul Cook's side went toe-to-toe with Tony Pulis' side from the off, though could have been behind early on when somehow Britt Assombalonga contrived to miss from close range, when it looked easier to score.

Steadying the ship, Latics grew into the game and Darren Randolph was at his biggest to prevent Sam Morsy from opening the scoring midway through the first half after great build up involving Reece James and Cal Naismith.

Jamie Jones made an important stop just into the second half denying Mo Besic and was alert again later in the game to force Stephen Fletcher wide, when teed up by Assombalonga.

It was a good point for Wigan against a team pushing for promotion, but with Reading and Rotherham winning, the gap to the relegation zone is now just three points.

Reaction from manager Paul Cook.

Here's Kal Naismith.
