Hulton Park development threatens historic dairy farm

A prize winning dairy farmer in Over Hulton says he fears losing his business to make way for a Ryder Cup golf course.

Peel are expected to submit a planning application to build a championship course capable of staging the event, along with a thousand homes on the Hulton Estate within the coming months.

Michael Partington's family have been tenants at Dearden's Farm on Manchester Road for over 60 years. He says they've been kept in the dark so far:

"It's all my life, isn't it. It's all my kids, it's my mum and dad, I don't know what we'd do if we're not here. We were going to do more things with the farm shop, to be fair. We were going to open a coffee shop. But any money I throw at that, could just be dead money.

"The trouble is with my job, it's a long term job, farming. You need to be planning ahead, but we don't know if we'll be here two years, ten years, or five years, until the plans have been sorted."
