At around 8.00pm last night officers were called to the playing field between Ashurst Drive and Bosworth Road following reports that two men had been assaulted by three other men, before they made off in a dark coloured Audi.
Emergency services attended and two men were located with slash and stab wounds to the face and hands, which were assessed as serious but non life-threatening. They were taken to hospital for treatment to their injuries.
An investigation has been launched and CCTV and witness enquiries are ongoing in the area.
Detective Chief Inspector Chris Sephton said: “This is the very early stages of our investigation but we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen or heard any suspicious activity and can assist our enquiries.
“Any piece of information could be key to finding those responsible and bringing them to justice. We are particularly keen to trace the dark coloured Audi so if you saw it in the area or making off at speed, or have any dashcam footage, please get in touch.
“Fortunately in this case the injuries sustained by the victims are not life threatening, but it could’ve been much worse. Merseyside Police will not tolerate the use of weapons under any circumstances and the force is determined to stop those individuals who carry weapons from causing fear and harm in our communities.”
Anyone with information is asked to contact Merseyside Police.
